Towpath Closure on June 8
June 7, 2021

On Monday, May 3, the staircase connecting the Centre Bridge-Stockton Bridge’s pedestrian walkway and Pennsylvania’s Delaware Canal towpath will be closed for 24 hours, starting 7 a.m. The closure will allow for epoxy coating work at the base of the staircase. Raindate: Tuesday, May 4.
The towpath is CLOSED just north of Woody’s Camelback Bridge ( Mile 54) due to a partial collapse of the towpath today. Trail users should turn around at the closure and NOT attempt to get by it, as the collapse may be prone to expanding and undercutting. The level of the water in the Canal has been lowered to reduce any further erosion.
The towpath between the Mary Yardley Footbridge Bridge, located at Fuld Avenue in Yardley Borough, and the Sommer’s Camelback Bridge,, just north of the Borough in Lower Makefield Township is closed. The State Park will be regrading the towpath to prevent overflows. The work is expected to be conducted between the hours of 8am and 4pm, and be complete by October 23.
SOUTH OF FRY’S RUN (MILE 52): [NEW] The towpath between Fry’s Run/Kleinhan’s Aqueduct and Mueller’s General Store is temporarily closed while contractors make repairs to a portion of the towpath which subsided after Tropical Storm Isaias. The closure is expected to last through Friday Aug 28. This advisory will be updated when work is complete.
SCUDDER FALLS AREA (MILE 16): The towpath may be closed intermittently in the area of I-95/I-295, Scudder Falls Bridge, intermittently through end of July 2020. Closures may occur between 6am-5pm Monday through Friday; the trail will be open on weekends. The Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission (DRJTBC) will be conducting work on the new bridge over the canal and towpath during these closures. For additional information please visit the DRJTBC website at www.scudderfallsbridge.com or you can contact the toll-free info line at 855-495-7726.
The parking lot at the Forks of the Delaware in Easton – a trail head for both the Delaware Canal and the D&L Trail – will be closed Monday, June 29 through Friday, July 3 and then Monday, July 6 through Friday, July 10.

Travel impacts for pedestrians and bicyclists: The steel staircase that connects the
bridge’s walkway with the underlying canal towpath on the Pennsylvania side is scheduled to be closed – around the clock — Wednesday, June 24, and Thursday, June 25.
In the event of bad weather or other delays, the closure will be extended to Friday, June 26, as a makeup work day. The closure is needed so work crews can install a new concrete foundation beneath the stair facility.
Bicyclists and pedestrians are advised to plan ahead and use the Lumberville-Raven Rock Toll-Supported Pedestrian Bridge to the north or the New HopeLambertville Toll-Supported Bridge’s walkway to the south as connection points for loop trips between the Delaware & Raritan Canal towpath in New Jersey and the Delaware Canal towpath in Pennsylvania.
