The Delaware Canal has been awarded the following official designations:

The National Register of Historic Places – 1974
The Delaware Canal added to The National Register of Historic Places - 1974
National Recreation Trails - 1990
National Recreation Trails - 1990

The Friends of the Delaware Canal have won the following honors:

• Winner of “Take Pride in America” Award First Prize 1990
Finalist 1988, 1989, and 1991
• Winner of “Take Pride in Pennsylvania” Award 1988, 1990, and 1991

Bucks County Route 32 (River Road), alongside which the Delaware Canal runs, has been honored with the following designations:

• Delaware River Scenic Drive, 1988
Designated by: National Park Service, U.S. Department of the Interior

• Boy Scouts of America Official Hiking Trail, 1976
