Centre Bridge- Stockton Bridge Walkway to Close on Weekdays

ATTENTION PA/NJ CANAL LOOP TRAIL USERS :

The Centre Bridge- Stockton Toll-Supported Bridge’s weathered wooden pedestrian walkway will be closed for public use during weekday daytime hours over the next three weeks, the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission announced today.

On or about Monday, April 24, Commission maintenance workers will launch a project involving the removal of the bridge walkway’s wooden planks and replacement with composite decking – a material that is more resistant to corrosion, warping, and weathering.  All work will be confined to  7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on any weekday that work takes place.

The walkway will be reopened for use during evenings and weekends when recreational use is at its highest.

Pedestrians, bicyclists, and recreationalists are urged to utilize alternative means of crossing the river during walkway closure periods.  The two closest pedestrian crossings are at the New Hope-Lambertville Toll-Supported Bridge to the south and the Lumberville-Raven Rock Toll-Supported Pedestrian Bridge to the north.

Note: Bicycle and pedestrian travel is prohibited on the Centre Bridge-Stockton crossing’s vehicular lanes, including when the bridge’s walkway is shut down.

The walkway redecking project is anticipated to be complete by May 12, weather permitting.
