To prevent more property damage, many of the Canal waste gates had to be opened during Sunday’s torrential rain, thus the Canal levels are low. As a consequence of necessary opening of waste gates, all the branches, etc. that landed in the Canal after the other various storms were swept to the waste gates and some lodged in the openings and some are piled in front. Until the openings are cleared, the gates can’t be closed, and water can’t be accumulated. The Park staff is working on the daunting task of removing and hauling away all the debris.
