One of the founders of the Friends, Betty Orlemann, was present and gave a presentation on the events leading to the.

The other important event was honoring Susan Taylor for her 15 years of service to the Friends of the Delaware Canal. Susan was the executive director for and was a major reason for the growth and continued influence of the Friends. Susan was also presented with a gift from the Board of the Friends.

Friends helping Friends was the theme of the House Tour at Traditions at Washington Crossing Saturday, September 29 . As a result, Friends of the Delaware Canal now has $1500 more to use for its mission of preserving a valued part of local history. The house tour committee chairs were Mary Munson and Ronnie Vinet, who said that the committee overwhelmingly endorsed the Friends as their choice for beneficiary of the event. The biking and walking towpath was a "draw" for many of the residents who moved to this beautiful 55-and-over community.

"The house tour was something we did for fun," said Carol Borzumato, who chairs the community's Activities Committee, "but we also wanted it to benefit the Friends organization. We were devastated when three floods in 18 months destroyed the paths. It's our way of giving something back to the larger community, which has been so welcoming to so many of us."

She said 174 people took part in the tour, which was open only to residents of Traditions and their guests. Fourteen homes were open for visitors, including examples of all eight house "models" in the community.

"It was great to see how some of our neighbors have customized their homes," said one resident, Jack Freeman, who lives on Dillon Way, "but what I found most interesting was the way that people used their own artistic sense to give their homes a sense of individuality." At the end of the day, the homeowners and the committee members gathered in the Traditions Clubhouse for a celebratory supper.
